Integrity first
GIMP safe download integrity and ethics
How this site talks about GPL licensing, open-source transparency, malware myths, checksums, and your responsibility when installing software.
Transparency
Open source under the GPL
GIMP is free software. Source availability and community review are part of why many people trust official builds more than unknown bundles.
This site at g-i-m-p.org is independent. It is not the official GIMP project homepage. We summarize version facts (3.2.4, released 2026-04-17, Windows ~188 MB) so you can check integrity yourself.
Published Windows SHA-256 for gimp-3.2.4-setup.exe:

No-malware stance
Official builds are not adware kits
GIMP project installers do not require payment or bundled toolbars. Risk usually comes from unofficial mirrors or modified packages.
- Prefer builds you can checksum against a published SHA-256.
- Confirm the Windows digital signature before running setup.
- Treat antivirus alerts on brand-new files as possible false positives until the hash fails.
- Avoid repacked “GIMP free download” archives from unknown hosts.
Legal and ethics
License clarity and user responsibility
Using free software still comes with responsibilities for how you install, modify, and redistribute it.
GPL license. GIMP is licensed under the GNU General Public License. You may use it without paying. Redistributing modified versions requires following GPL terms.
Trademarks and branding. GIMP and Wilber are associated with the GIMP project. This site uses the names for identification, not to claim official status.
Your responsibility. You decide whether to trust a file after checking hashes and signatures. We cannot supervise every mirror on the internet.
No warranty. Software is provided without warranty. Test critical workflows before relying on any single editor for production deadlines.
